Is the current state of voice cloning and synthetic speech ready to take over your podcast?

We don't think so, but we do think that it's starting to get really good.

So we put together this Audio Battle Royale, so that Top Tech Tidbits readers could hear the difference for themselves.

We have prepared for you 4 versions of the very same podcast. Each using a different voice, but utilizing the very same transcript.

The podcast that we will be using for this Audio Battle Royale will be the Top Tech Tidbits Podcast for Thursday, June 1, 2023.

VERSION 1: Human Voice By Aaron Di Blasi

The first version of the podcast is the normal, human-voiced version of the Podcast, voiced by me, Aaron Di Blasi, Publisher for the Top Tech Tidbits Newsletter.

VERSION 2: AI Voice Cloned from Aaron Di Blasi by ElevenLabs

The second version of the podcast uses a cloned version of my voice, Aaron Di Blasi, using the current ElevenLabs Voice Cloning feature. I trained the ElevenLabs model on my voice using a clean version of my dialog for this very same podcast.

VERSION 3: AI Generated Male Voice From Speechelo

The third version of the podcast uses a synthetic, AI-generated male voice from a product called Speechelo. Speechelo is another synthetic, AI-generated voice provider that has been selling access to its fine tuned voice models since 2015.

Maybe not, but it's certainly good enough for short explainer videos and other small projects.

The real purpose of this comparison was to provide readers with a current state of the art in audio format. Something we may do again as the technology improves.
