With so many features and keystrokes available between JAWS, Windows, and the various Office apps, it can be challenging to locate the information you need to perform a specific task or look up a keystroke. The new AI assistant, FSCompanion, lets you ask questions about JAWS and other applications and quickly provides the answers.

JAWS now offers the option to navigate directly to slider controls on web pages, such as the Seek slider on YouTube for rewinding or fast-forwarding a video. By default, there is no keystroke assigned. To assign a keystroke to navigate to the next or previous slider, do the following.

In JAWS you can press ALT+WINDOWS+C to open a dialog where you can quickly respond to an incoming call from Teams, Phone Link, or Skype. This enables you to respond to a call without having to move focus to the app and then locate the correct option or perform the correct keystroke.

Word enables you to create different types of lists for organizing and presenting information. To create these lists using JAWS, follow these steps.

Font refers to a set of typography or text characters in a specific style and size. Font styles are used in both print and digital text. Font attributes give a font a unique appearance. You can change these attributes to meet certain needs. For example, you might set the font to Times New Roman, 12 point size, and bold text. You can adjust font attributes through the Ribbon or with keyboard shortcuts.

In JAWS, you can add PlaceMarkers on a web page to make it easy to navigate directly to a certain spot. For example, there may be a page you visit frequently where you need to perform a certain task quickly by jumping to a control, heading, or edit box to log in, or enter information. Here’s how to set a PlaceMarker in JAWS.

Use keyboard shortcuts in Google Drive to navigate Drive, select items, and perform editing tasks. These shortcuts were recently updated to make navigation easier. The update will take effect on August 1, 2024.

Use Mouse Mode in Picture Smart AI to select a specific area of a picture for analysis. Picture Smart AI describes only that area instead of describing the entire picture or screen. For a Fusion user, using the mouse to select items on the screen can be faster than using keyboard commands. The mouse also offers greater control when selecting specific parts of a picture.

In the July update of JAWS 2024, we added a new keystroke to describe an image based on your current application or context. This eliminates the need to remember which keystroke to use when you need a description of a control or application window.
