JAWS Power Tip: How To Create a Document in Google Docs with JAWS

Google Docs is a part of the Google Workspace suite of applications and is widely used in schools and in the workplace to create, edit, and share documents.

To create a new document from the address bar in your browser:

1.) Type Docs.new and press ENTER. If you are not already signed into your Google account, you will be prompted to do so. Google Docs creates a new document and places focus in it. Google Docs does not need to be open already for this to work.

2.) Since this new document is untitled, you will need to give it a name. Press ALT+F to access the File menu.

3.) Press R to access the Rename dialog.

4.) Type a name and press ENTER. Focus returns to your newly renamed document.

5.) Press INSERT+T if using desktop layout or CAPS LOCK+T if using laptop layout to read the window title and verify the new document name.
