Form fields are interactive elements on web pages, such as buttons, edit fields, checkboxes, radio buttons, and combo boxes.
They are essential for tasks like filling out forms, searching, or submitting information.
For screen reader users, quickly finding and navigating to these fields can save time and reduce frustration, especially on complex pages.
You can list specific types of form fields to learn more about the layout and controls on the form, which can make it easier to understand and navigate.
Commands include:
- Press JAWS KEY+F5 to list all form fields on a page.
- Press CTRL+JAWS KEY+B to list all Buttons and quickly find all actionable items, such as “Submit” or “Search” buttons.
- Press CTRL+JAWS KEY+E to list all Edit fields and jump directly to text boxes for entering information.
- Press CTRL+JAWS KEY+X to list all Checkboxes and review and select options in surveys or settings.
- Press CTRL+JAWS KEY+A to list all Radio buttons and review a set of mutually exclusive options.
- Press CTRL+JAWS KEY+C to list Combo boxes and review the types of drop-down lists and their choices.
If you are using JAWS in Desktop Keyboard layout, the JAWS KEY is INSERT, and CAPS LOCK if you are using Laptop Keyboard layout.
Once you list a type of form field like buttons or checkboxes, the options are displayed in the Virtual Viewer, where you can navigate them using your up and down arrow keys. Press ENTER on an option you want to access. The list closes and focus moves to that form field.
