JAWS Power Tip: How To Instantly Announce Your Line and Column Position in Word with JAWS

JAWS can announce your precise line and column position in any Word document with a single keystroke.

This is helpful when navigating long documents.

In regular text, “line” refers to the number of lines you are from the top of the document, and “column” is your character position within that line.

For example, in a document, JAWS might say:

“Line 12, column 5.”

This means you are on the 12th line of the document and on the fifth character of that line.

Knowing your line and column is essential for precise editing, troubleshooting layout issues, and ensuring your work meets formatting requirements.

Press JAWS KEY+DELETE to have JAWS read the current line and column position in Word.

The JAWS KEY is INSERT if you are using Desktop keyboard layout, and CAPS LOCK if you are using Laptop layout.

JAWS will speak the current line and column information.
