JAWS Power Tip: How To Use Sound Splitter to Separate JAWS Speech from Other Audio

The Sound Splitter feature in JAWS lets you route all JAWS speech to one ear and audio from other applications to the other ear when using stereo headsets or speakers.

This is especially useful if you want to keep working with JAWS while listening to a meeting or media in another app, making it easier to focus on both at the same time.

To split sound:

1.) Press JAWS KEY+SPACEBAR to activate the JAWS layered command mode. The JAWS KEY is INSERT if you are using Desktop keyboard layout, and CAPS LOCK if you are using Laptop keyboard layout.

2.) Press V to open the Volume layer.

3.) Press B for Balance.

4.) Press the LEFT ARROW to route JAWS speech to the left ear and all other audio to the right, or press RIGHT ARROW to do the opposite.

5.) To restore both JAWS and application audio to both ears, press JAWS KEY+SPACEBAR, V, then B, followed by UP ARROW.

Bonus Tip: Make sure your headset is correctly oriented. If you hear JAWS in the wrong ear, your headset may be reversed.
