JAWS Power Tip: How To Set Focus Sessions to Minimize Distractions

Focus sessions help you stay on task by minimizing distractions for a set period of time.

While Focus is enabled, you will not receive notifications and reminders.

To set a Focus session in Windows 11 with JAWS:

1.) Press WINDOWS+I to access Settings.

2.) Type ‘Focus’ in the search box, and press DOWN ARROW to locate Focus Settings. Press ENTER.

3.) Navigate the dialog by pressing TAB.

Options include:

Start Focus Session

Show All Settings

Decrease Duration

Increase Duration

Show the timer in the Clock app

Turn on Do Not Disturb

4.) Press SPACEBAR on Start Focus Session to begin the session. When activated, the label for this button changes to Stop Focus Session. Press the SPACEBAR to stop the session.

5.) Press SPACEBAR on Decrease Duration to decrease the time in five minute increments. Press the SPACEBAR on Increase Duration to increase the time by five minute increments.

6.) Press ALT+F4 to close Settings

Alternatively, access Focus Sessions in the notification area by pressing WINDOWS+N. Press TAB to navigate to the increase and decrease buttons, and press SPACEBAR to change the focus time in five minute increments. In this area, the Start Focus button is labeled Focus instead. Once it is activated, the labeled changes to End Session. You can also check or uncheck Do Not Disturb in the Notifications area by pressing the SPACEBAR
