JAWS Power Tip: How To Create a New Sheet in Google Sheets

Google Sheets is a part of the Google Workspace suite of applications, and is widely used in schools and in the workplace to organize data.

You can navigate, format, and analyze data in Sheets with JAWS using the keyboard.

To create a new Sheet from the address bar in your browser:

1.) Type sheets.new and press ENTER. If you are not already signed in to your Google account, you will be prompted to do so.

2.) Google Sheets creates a new sheet and places focus in it. Google Sheets does not need to be open already for this to work.

Since this new sheet is untitled, you will need to give it a name. To do this:

A.) Press ALT+F or ALT+SHIFT+F to access the File menu.

B.) Press R to access the Rename dialog.

C.) Type a name for the sheet and press ENTER. Focus returns to your newly renamed sheet.

D.) Press INSERT+T if using desktop layout or CAPS LOCK+T if using laptop layout to verify the new sheet name.
